A recent survey of global chief procurement officers found the most significant business driver for 2007 is compliance to contracts and improved visibility of spend with suppliers. The survey was conducted by Capgemini, asking CPOs at major firms in six different countries what their priorities were for 2007. The results show CPOs are very focused on supplier relationship management systems. Many businesses have SRM systems in place, but are not leveraging the processes to their maximum.

Defining supply chain measures starts with identifying key result areas (KRAs) where performance has a significant impact on organizational success, says Dr. Edward Marien, professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin.
