The mainstream application of the Internet for business in the mid 1990s revolutionized sourcing in China. Whereas once a winding process involving endless introductions through middlemen on both sides of the Pacific, U.S.-based buyers can now have a short list of potential suppliers in hand on arrival in the People’s Republic, limiting the hours of karaoke and Chinese rice wine they would otherwise have had to endure.

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman today announced that its Global Sourcing practice advised Co-operative Financial Services (CFS), a leading United Kingdom (UK) financial services group, on the negotiation and closing of a major technology and business process outsourcing contract with Capita Group Plc, a UK business process outsourcing firm. Pillsbury worked closely with lawyers Paul Taylor, Chris Parsons and David Severs of the CFS Legal Services department. Under the terms of the ten year contract worth approximately 275 million pounds (or approximately $550 million), Capita will provide end-to-end policy administration and technology support for CFS’s Life and Savings business, helping the organisation enhance customer services, reduce technology risks to business and invest related cost savings in innovative new product and service offerings.
