An economic free fall is ushering in a new era of collaboration between manufacturers and distributors, said leading business leaders at the Intlernational Foodservice Manufacturers Association’s annual Chain Operator’s Exchange (COEX) meeting this week.

“We have dealt with a slump in consumer spending before,” said Tad Wampfler, senior vice president of supply chain management for Wendy’s International, Inc. “But couple that with the rise of petroleum and grain, and you reach a real crisis.”

Arshiya International to expand logistics offerings

Logistics service firm Arshiya International Ltd is expanding its offerings and has signed an initial pact with a US-based cold chain logistics provider for a joint venture in India, its top official said.

The company, previously known as IID Forgings Ltd, would be a majority holder in the cold chain services venture, helping Arshiya expand its services to retailers, chairman and chief executive officer Ajay Mittal said.

The company’s other service offerings include software solutions of supply chain management, freight forwarding as well as project logistics. It is also setting up free trade zones in the Middle East and India.

Annual Political and Economic Risk Map Finds the World a Riskier Place in 2008

Insurer Aon Corp, in partnership with research firm Oxford Analytica, recently released its annual Political and Economic Risk Map for 2008, finding that economic, political and supply chain risks are again on the rise.

The analysis found that there is an elevated risk in 25 of the 50 largest global economies, making companies sourcing from, operating in, or exporting to those countries vulnerable to a variety of costly disruptions The researchers define elevated risk as any country that has a risk rating of Medium-Low, Medium, Medium-High or High.
