No matter what your business is, you need to take precautions with your supply chain, writes Andrew Cave

It might sound a fatuous point but the question of how to manage and control a supply chain depends on what it is that you are seeking to manage and control.

Do you want to receive products into your supply chain at the most convenient time without loss of quality or value, either because you are a retailer who wants to sell them on to customers or a manufacturer who needs “just-in-time” delivery for its assembly line? Or is it all about managing and controlling costs, squeezing suppliers and safeguarding your all-important working capital?
